This time of the year...

Yes folks, it's that time of the year. The time when the Swanplant gets overcrowded with stripey goodness. The fat caterpillars then hang in a J and their skin peels off revealing a beautiful chrysalis complete with gold embellishments. Son and daughter have their fair share of holding these delights remembering to swap them every now and then as they need to eat alot to turn into a butterfly.

Went for a drive over the hill and saw another fat thing hanging off the wharf...click if you can wait for it to load..

...alot of people were leaning off the lookout getting photos and some just staring at how huge this ship is. My son just kept saying "there are boats on it!" which was so cute. It is the Sapphire Princess, apparently the biggest cruise ship in the world, very impressive.

Knitting news: finished hubby's hat, may turn into daughters hat.(Black is so hard to take a photo of isn't it?). Started and almost finished a Wombat knitted stuffed toy. It's called Wally, but daughter may rename it a girly name yet as it is hers. Son now wants me to do him one too. Cool. Photo when it looks something less like I have skinned a rabbit!

Son is having school visits last week and this week, and he is showing interest in starting school so that's exciting for him and me. I just hope they can keep him busy so he doesn't get bored.

So I started on a hat for hubby with some stash yarn. Mohair in black. The thing is this, it is starting to look like something

no, it isn't a caterpillar! But it seems to be a little too feminine.
I'm thinking I'll finish it anyway for myself and buy some more yarn in a non-fluffy sense. I need the circ needle for the stripey sweater so I am deciding that wednesdays are definitely going to be knitting nights. "Lost" is on New Zealand tv now, so I want to watch that and keep my fingers otherwise engaged.
In other news, the indoor cucumber plant in the pot has flowered a minature flower!

So we may have a mini cucumber soon (if at all).

I have been looking around other blogs too, and some have heightened my interest in quilting. So I got out my scraps of material I've been collecting for years and started on this small quilt (because it's my first I don't want to make it too hard) using these fabrics so far..

..so I'll do that in between doing all my other jobs.

And the pumpkin grew bigger and bigger....

...until I had to turn it away from our back door. We do need to shut the door at night you know. Can't have the thing growing in the house even though son wanted it to!

Have been knitting the wee stripey sweater for daughter, and have seamed up the side seams and have to pick up stitches around the armholes for the sleeves and knit them up (or down) depends on which way you hold it.
Knit up a quick hat for daughter for this coming winter, then it was a little too tight for my liking, so I undid the whole thing and knit it again! This time casting on another inch or so for more ease.

It worked out pretty well, so will have to make a few more with the odd balls of yarn in my stash.
