New Project

So I started another knitting project because my thumb is so split and sore the small gauge on my sock is hurting me. I have started a sweater for myself for a change, in a light grey silvery colour. The yarn is 65% synthetic 15% mohair and 25% wool, from what I remember. It is knitting up nicely too, not splitting or anything. I hate it when yarn splits. I have just completed the first sleeve...

and look what I found....

yes it's a dropped stitch down near the ribbing where I began, and I didn't notice it until after I cast off, there's no way I'm frogging all this so I am going to thread it through to the back and secure it.

Oh and here is the sock I'm holding onto until my thumb is better, I think I'm about half way through the foot

but it can wait, it seems to be a patient sock.

Daughter,me and now Hubby are sick with cold and coughs. Sore throat too, oh it's nasty. Son is okay to go back to school tomorrow though, no coughing or snorting snot today from him. That's if I can wake him in the morning, he's been sleeping more than usual in the morning while he's been sick, but now he needs to get back to the normal routine of waking. Should be fun trying to get him up. I promised him I'd use a wet facecloth if I need to. Ha ha. He'll be right, mate!

Sick Kids
Yeah, kids have colds again. That's what you get when they have daily contact with other kids at kindy and school. I can't wrap them in cotton all their lives though can I? They only have an episode so far at night or when they are febrile, so I just keep them home and keep a close eye on them. Son gets asthma with a cough too, so I've got watch his breathing. Lotsa fun, right? They are happily playing in Son's bedroom drawing and making books. We have not ended up watching Shrek 2 for the millionth time. Yet. We are however, listening to 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb' by U2, and weirdly enough Du Hast by Rammstein over and over really loud. Daughter thinks he is speaking English and makes up what the words are. Quite funny.
Yeah, I need to get out more. But it is funny.

Stronger Collar

Well after I finished the aran sweater for hubby I noticed while he was wearing it the collar was a little floppy (for a lack of a better word!) so I decided last night to fix it up. Just adding more rib to what's there already and then I'll fold it over to make a thicker collar.

I've got a wee way to go yet..

And for the bird lovers out there, I think this is so cute...

So on Mother's Day the kids had gone and got me some stuff. There are rainbows all over the lounge walls thanks to Son getting me a "prison" to hang on the window. It is so pretty when the sun shines through it. Daughter got me pyjamas and when their Aunty was with them helping them choose something for me, she said Daughter went all around the shop hugging all the clothes until she found the right thing. Cute fabric too...(yes I know it's wrinkled)

I have been plodding along on the 'practise' quilt, and I think I'll do a few more squares before doing the binding around the edges...

That is my attempt at a whale.

Hmmm.

Anyway, here is Doug being all naughty and cunning on Guiding Light, people in US are so lucky to have that Soap as they get to see this actor on tv. I have to wait for movies and csi etc....

I can't find a good picture anywhere of Ralph Fiennes in Red Dragon so these will have to do, although he's gained heaps of muscle to play that role and sat for hours at a time to get his Dragon tattoo applied.

Ho Hum

That's how I feel after a busy weekend. Not tired, just blah. The weekend was busy birthday wise, three birthdays and more next week too. Pepi found a new friend in Son and me, he's so cute and boy was he happy to be back at kindy. I took him back on the buggy/pram and when we were coming up the path to the kindy buildings he started making all kinds of interested noises! Daughter is sad to see him go, but we will have him here again, seems that he sometimes has nowhere to go some weekends. We can fix that problem!

Here are a few pictures... remembering this birdy could give kisses, step-up on your finger, and loved to walk around on the carpet too.

Dad came to visit, and Pepi found a nice place to sit here also...

Sister has just finished a side to side sweater top for her daughter, and now she is working on a Chullo type hat in matching black. Her daughter wants the hat to have bells on the ends of the ear flaps too. Recently Sister has also finished her grandsons sweater for winter with short zip at the neckline in Inca. Gorgeous yarn, I must get my hands on some soon!
I'm still plodding on with my shawl (though I do need my 4mm hook back Sister) and have been doing a few more squares on the quilt. I'm just quilting little pictures and swirls as they come to mind, since this is my experiment quilt and I have no pattern I'm just going with the flow. I did start some socks using Wendy's toe-up pattern go there, which I am finding really neat as you can try them on for size at the same time you are knitting them! But they are something I do when I'm feeling more patient. Big breath, and smile. There we go.

Oh, and Doug Hutchison has just finished filming a pilot (which I'm hoping they'll pick up for this year) where he is a defense lawyer. Should be different, him being the good guy (maybe) for once.
Listening to Moon Safari by Air, and The Handsome Family's Far From Any Road from their Singing Bones album.

Pepi The Cockatiel

Yesterday we picked up the kindy bird. His name is Pepi and he is young and cute with a preference for my shoulder. I must say I haven't had much to do with birds, so this bird interested in me almost freaks me out. I'm not afraid he'll bite me hard, he gives little affectionate nibbles on my ear and hair. I'm just not used to having a bird here. Daughter loves him, she often watches him for the afternoon while she is at kindy, so it's nice to bring him home for the weekend. Here is Daughter feeding Pepi a piece of seed...

Here is Son holding Pepi...

he is the bravest one of us with the bird. Son was the first to try to pick Pepi up with his hand, and he also loves the bird. We don't have any pets, so the children are really enjoying him.
