Just Plodding Along

Sunday, May 30, 2004

Been a week already. I've been in hospital with daughter three days last week due to hypoglycaemia and gastroenteritis. Just finished respite care from hubby's sister, and it was a good break away. Watched a few videos and slept both mornings, just what hubby and I needed. In knitting news, I have separated for the raglan shaping of the sleeves and am halfway up to the neck on one side, it's going a whole lot faster now that I'm knitting backwards and forwards. Hopefully have a quieter week so I can actually knit some. Couldn't knit in hospital as daughter was very cuddly and when she wasn't cuddling me or sleeping she was having glucose tests followed by me and the nurse trying to get her to eat or drink something. Poor girl, but she's better now. Made it to church this morning too, haven't been for quite a while. Saw our neighbours go there too, they've got a wee baby and were probably in the small room at the back of the church where there is a live feed of the service on a television. Our kids enjoyed that room when we took them, lots of toys for them to play with in there.

I'm supposed to be making a hot bedtime drink, but I'm here blogging instead so I'll make it quick. I took son to his friend's house today and they had so much fun running around and playing with each other. I'll have to take him back some time, his friends mother is very friendly and easy to talk to so that makes it easier. Been knitting when I can, got one more celtic braid repeat to go, then I think I'll stop and figure out how to do the shoulders. Good for practising anyway, especially the steeking (should be awful fun!). Wanting to get the digital camera out and take a photo of my progress, as I think I can get the lighting right and show the lumpiness of the cables. Daughter likes the look of it too, and likes to touch the fabric as I knit it.
Off to make hot drinks.

This isn't a good photo really, but here is the top daughter got a few months ago when I finally finished it. It is the first one I did the sleeves from the body to the wrist attached to the sweater. Very interesting and a good outcome too. The collar rolled the wrong way, but still looked good, though I know for next time to do the opposite of what I did here for a proper rolled collar. This was also the first time I did buttonholes while I knit the pieces, instead of afterwards in the border.

The yarn was very thin in this garment, but did not have a label, I think it was a nylon or acrylic, not wool anyway. Washes in the machine without going out of shape, that's good for toddler clothing though. Son has had dry nights all month apart from a few nights, seems to be a wednesday or thursday when he wets. I love that he knows he's trying really hard.

Socks I finished for daughter last month.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Done on four 3.25mm needles with short row wrap heel.
Oooh blogger lets me blog today! Been busy at the aran and have a good five inches done. I'm planning on knitting up to the shoulders and steek for the sleeves, which I haven't done before. It shouldn't be too hard to do, anyway, I'll work it out as this is why I'm doing a practise aran before the big aran for hubby. Daughter is reading a book while the Ark Angels are on, she likes their songs. Son is out fishing with hubby, though I hope they don't catch cold while they're out. Very cold here today, no wind but icy air and hope of a frost tonight. Son is so excited about going out fishing, he couldn't stop talking about it all through lunch. I wonder what they will bring home with them?

I haven't taken a photo of the Aran yet as it is hard to see much detail yet, and it is hard to pose the knitting. This is hooded vest I made a wee while ago with crochet, and still haven't put toggles on for the fastenings (slacker). Daughter loves it and even wears it upside-down!

I'm getting faster at doing the cables now, and might have more time tonight for more knitting.

Seems to me that I'm a slow knitter when it comes to knitting cables and patterns in the round. Last night I calculated 15 minutes for a pattern round, and 4 minutes for a knit and purl round. This is going to take a while. There are about 140 stitches on the circular needle, which is comfortable as they don't bunch up or stretch out too much. The Aran is only toddler size, but since I have done one whole repeat on the Celtic Plait it is looking spiffy.

See Ben won NZ Idol, thought for sure Michael would get there, but no. He was a good second place getter anyway.

Okay, daughter has her knickers on her head, better go and supervise putting them on the correct part of her body!

Well I thought I would start with the latest thing I finished. It's the ladybird sweater for my son, who loves it so much he hasn't worn it yet because he doesn't want to get it dirty!

Hopefully he will actually wear it soon or it may get passed to his younger sister as never worn before. She has her eye on it now and wants me to make her one, I'm thinking about it. It wasn't that hard to do, just to graph out the picture and make it in the right place on the sweater. There is also a small ladybird on the upper back too

not a very good photo but you get the idea. More tomorrow.
Long time no posting! Have completed a lot of new items lately and have been chatting with my sister-in-law about knitting. She is knitting a tiger cardigan for her grandson at the moment, and I am knitting an Aran sweater that might fit my daughter but is really a practise one before I do one for hubby.

Isn't he adorable?
More later.
