Gardens

My garden is very overgrown with weeds. I did some digging this morning before I got rained inside.

This should be cleared soon, next to it looks better already.

In the middle next to the self-sown dill is a thornless blackberry I bought Summer 2008, hope to grow it up onto the fence, but not sure if there will be fruit this year. The yellow sad looking thing is a tangelo tree, I think it needs some tree food of some sort, will look into that soon.

The willow we ripped from the gravel road has sprouted nicely this year, and I'll keep guiding it to grow up instead of into a bush.

I also cleared the corner where I'll put one of the tomato plants I bought last week. I have sweet100, beefsteak and another medium variety. The other two will go against the back fence I think, they did well there last season.

Growth

Plants are doing well, tomatoes, cucumbers, pumpkins, courgettes, lettuces, runner beans, strawberries, onions etc... The plants I want to do well this season are the tomatoes, as I want to try out some sauce recipes. Of course I want the other plants to do well also too! The lettuces are doing okay, though I should be watering them a bit more - starting tomorrow I will. There are 25 of them left, having only one of them die in the heat, plus it was smaller than the rest too.
The broad beans are finished and I've saved some seed for this year's crop. I've composted today in the gaps where I want to put some seeds. There are butter beans, spring onions, peas and red onions to put in the ground soon.

Planting

I've had these plants for a week now, with no let up of pouring rain or extreme temperatures until today, and even then I had to wait for evening to come before planting them, as it was over 30C today!

I planted two courgettes and a pumpkin plant along the north-east fenceline. I put two tomatoes in against the north-west fence next to a stake that I heavily composted around. They all look lovely and healthy too, I'm hoping they survive the hot weather that's coming.

My other plants are doing okay, with one tomato plant already bearing half a dozen fruit on it.
The kids had fun picking some red currants and making 'juice' with them. They squished the fruit in their hands and mixed the juice with some raro from the fridge and loved it. I'm sure they had fun doing it.

I still have some broad beans on the plant to gather, and also have some beans to plant out. I'll make them grow up something though, and may end up putting them up against the south fence, it gets a lot of sun.
